● Induced pluripotent stem cell systems are at the forefront of new treatment methodologies in both the lab and the clinic.
● Induction often requires the use of factors, especially Oct4, to establish pluripotency but is inefficient and carries risks of genetic mutation and abnor-mal expression.
● Dr. Deng’s Lab designed an OCT-4 GFP reporter system and identified a known chemical forskolin (activator of adenylyl cyclase) that is able to reproduce the effects of OCT-4. By using forskolin in conjunction with other chemicals, they successfully induced pluripotent stem cells without the use of factor. |
